ASU members call for 5% pay rise
Date: 31/03/22
Today, ASU members, Lilly, Harvey and Adele joined ACTU Secretary Sally McManus calling for a 5% increase in National Wage Case.
Workers need a 5% wage rise so they can keep up with the cost of living. Our claim for a 5% rise to the minimum wage is what is needed for Australian workers to keep their heads above water with inflation and the cost of living rapidly rising.
1 in 4 workers rely on the wage increases determined by annual wage review – we need and a meaningful pay rise.
A 5% increase in the minimum wage would mean lifting the hourly rate to $21.35 for the 1 in 4 workers who receive the minimum wage or an Award wage. Even if your pay is not set by an Award or the minimum wage, improving the minimum wage benefits all of us.
The Annual Wage Review is the ONLY guaranteed wage increase anywhere in the economy, and unions are the ONLY group that pushes for a genuine increase to wages, year after year. Watch Kiz talk about the campaign and what the pay rise would mean to workers, like her.
