ASU staff member Charlotte Walker wins SA senate spot
27 May 2025
Charlotte Walker will be formally declared a South Australian Senator by the Australian Electoral Commission this afternoon.
Charlotte is the youngest ever elected Senator. Having turned 21 years old on election day, Charlotte will be a fresh voice in Canberra.
For the past 12 months Charlotte has been employed at the Australian Services Union as a member engagement officer, providing industrial advice and support to members.
Quotes from Abbie Spencer, SA + NT ASU Branch Secretary
During her time working at the ASU, Charlotte has demonstrated maturity beyond her years, supporting distressed and vulnerable workers on a daily basis.
Charlotte isn’t afraid to speak up and advocate for others. She is capable, pragmatic and hard working. These qualities will no doubt stand her in good stead as a Senator.
We are incredibly proud of Charlotte.
While we are sad to lose her as part of the ASU team - our loss is Canberra’s gain!
