Councils single EA gets voted up at Knox
19 June 2026
The ASU acknowledges Knox City Council’s announcement that they have a secured a majority vote for a single enterprise agreement.
The Fair Work Commission must scrutinise the enterprise agreement (EA). The ASU remains a bargaining representative through this process and will ensure the EA is scrutinised to ensure it meets the Better Off Overall Test and meets all other legal requirements. If you have any concerns about the conduct of the ballot, we encourage you to get in contact with us to ensure your voice is heard through this process.
If the Fair Work Commission approves the enterprise agreement, then that will govern your terms and conditions. You will be eligible to join the multi-employer agreement at the expiry of that agreement. If Fair Work doesn’t approve the EA, then you remain eligible to join the MEA. We will keep you updated as that legal process unfolds.
We acknowledge the wage and conditions offered were higher than previous EA outcomes at Knox City Council . This is reflective of Union members decision to fight for something better through the Multi-Employer Agreement. Knox City Council was forced to offer workers improved wages and conditions to offer an alternative to the MEA. It was a difficult decision for many to not participate in enterprise bargaining – but in doing so we maintained our bargaining leverage for a MEA and forced the employer to put a decent offer on the table. This outcome has only come about by the difficult decisions and strength of union members at Knox.
The ASU wants to recognise union delegates hard work during this campaign, they have kept the fight going for many months and have advocated for better pay and conditions for all Knox workers.
