Energy Delegate Profile - Brett Smith
01 June 2026
Brett Smith is a well known face to many across the Power Industry and at our annual ASU delegates conferences. Having started his career in the SECV way back in 1988 Brett has worked as Tester and Senior Tester across a number of companies, starting with the various versions of Powernet, later Ausnet and now at Zinfra working on the TOMSA contract.
Brett has been a very active delegate for more than a decade, starting with Ausnet, where he was actively involved in bargaining and now with Zinfra, where he and his fellow delegate Allan Millar were the powerhouses behind negotiating really excellent outcomes in the latest agreement which delivered fantastic wage outcomes and brought the former Ausnet members largely into line with their colleagues elsewhere in Zinfra. Brett was the architect and driving forces behind developing the framework for a new classification system in the EA that will see long awaited career progression for his members. Brett has also been active with branch committess and on the ASU’s national Power Industry Conference.
A family man with a wife and two children, Brett still finds time to devote himself to a role as Secretary of his local Cricket Club. One of nature’s true gentlemen and universally liked by all he comes into contact, Brett is a union man through and through bringing an intelligent and thoughtful approach to representing his members and the ASU values his many contributions and his efforts on behalf of members.
