ASU Protecting Your Jobs at Virgin Australia
The ASU is aware that Virgin Australia has announced major changes to airport check-in, including expanded app-based check-in and automated bag drop systems designed to speed up the process.
While the company says staff airports will remain staffed, it has provided no guarantees on jobs, hours, or the future of frontline roles.
These changes raise real risks for members, including increased automation possible job cuts or reduced hours, changes to roles and duties or even potential outsourcing or job losses.
Virgin has announced these changes without consulting your union, which is a minimum legal requirement in our Enterprise Agreement.
We have
written to Virgin Australia demanding:
- •no redundancies
- •no cuts to hours
- •no outsourcing of ASU members’ work; and
- full consultation before implementing any changes
We have also requested an urgent meeting with Virgin.
While we support improved services, this cannot be the expense of Virgin employees who are critical to the operations of the company.
If you have concerns about these changes or how they may affect your role, speak to your delegate or contact your Organiser. We will keep you updated as this develops.
