Western Downs Regional Council threatens employee lockout
The Services Union will continue to be by our members side as Western Downs Regional Council (WDRC) continue to attempt to intimidate our members for engaging in protected industrial action to improve wages and conditions. The Council has threatened to lock members out without pay for undertaking bans such as the following.
• “Working to rule” which means employees will continue to perform their duties professionally, safely, and in accordance with workplace procedures, including working only the hours they are rostered and paid to work.
• Wearing a Badge.
• Wearing a Union T-Shirt.
• Wearing Fancy Dress.
None of these actions affect the service our members provide the community each day, which tells us the Council would prefer to lock its employees out rather than focus on delivering quality services to the community.
We want to hear from members via a short survey (emailed out today) so we can be ready for what comes next week.
Remember, we’re back at the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission on Monday 18 May at 11:00AM, where we will see how serious the Council is about valuing the amazing work our members do at WDRC.
We've arranged an online member meeting for Monday 18 May at 2.30pm. We request you attend this meeting online (details in the member email).
Remember, only members of our Union can participate in Protected Industrial Action. Speak to your colleagues and ask them to participate by joining The Services Union.
