Where Is Virgin’s Pay Offer?

Virgin Australia recently advised the ASU it would provide a comprehensive pay offer linked to its full Guest Services and Guest Contact Centre EA package at a meeting scheduled for 28 May.

Unfortunately, Virgin has now delayed that meeting. Our Union expects Virgin to table a revised offer at the rescheduled meeting on Wednesday 3 June.

What’s on the table?
We have told Virgin the following matters must be on the agenda:
  1. Virgin Australia’s full pay proposal
  2. Rosters
  3. Classification structure
  4. Higher Duties and Permanent Appointment
Members deserve clarity on both pay and conditions, not one without the other.

Overtime and your income
ASU members have provided strong, consistent feedback on Virgin’s proposal to roster employees up to ten hours at single rates. Members know the capacity to earn overtime is a critical part of your income.
While cost-of-living pressures remain high, every opportunity to earn matters.
We are concerned that the proposed changes could diminish overtime access, create longer and more intense shifts and reduce your take-home pay.

Our position
Any new agreement with Virgin cannot result in a reduction to your earning capacity.
Members should not be expected to work longer or more demanding shifts for less.

What happens next
We will take this message directly to Virgin on 3 June and continue to push for:
  • a genuine pay offer
  • protection of overtime and earnings
  • fair, sustainable rostering
We will update members after the next meeting. If you have any specific questions or want to become more involved in getting a better deal, talk to your Airlines Industry Organiser Don Brown. The best way to a better deal is through a strong ASU. If you’re not a member, join now.
